Mr Yates is the subject leader for Physical Education. This is what he says about his subject.
At All Saints C of Primary School the children complete a wide variety of sports in Physical Education that enables them to develop their knowledge and skills in a fun environment. We aim to do this through a broad and balanced curriculum focussing on the development of the whole person. In line with the delivery of ‘British Values’ we want to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.
This is what the children say about P.E.
Ivy says at school her favourite subject is P.E. In P.E. we are learning to do a bug's life dance. We are learning to do lots of bug movements. Also in P.E. we are doing football. In football we are doing dribbling.
P.E. is so much fun!
Leon says my favourite subject is P.E. I like it because it is competitive, sporty, exercise and fun. It keeps me fit and healthy and it is fun. My favourite sport is football.
P.E.
At All Saints’ CE Primary School we believe in giving all pupils, irrespective of their academic or physical ability, the opportunity to discover and develop their physical potential through a balanced and progressive programme of activities.
What are our aims?
How is PE taught?
In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 each child will participate in two hours of timetabled PE each week, whilst children from ELS will participate in one hour of timetabled PE each week. Also children from Key Stage 1 and 2 will complete at least one structured sport session of thirty minutes during lunchtime a week.
Pupils will be taught skills across six areas of activity including gymnastics, invasion games and dance. During each year they will be taught games and activities which aims to promote competition and challenge. Swimming will be taught during Key Stage 2 in Y4. Each child in Year 4 attends twenty swimming sessions, each one lasting sixty minutes. Our school’s sporting provision is enhanced through specialist sports coaches leading certain sessions. Eg Fencing, judo, Thai boxing, gymnastics etc.
How is PE assessed?
Observational assessment is our main way of collecting evidence in PE. This may include discussion, responses to questions and children’s assessment of their own and others’ performance.
